Cartes de combattants
The fighter card was created by the law of December 19th, 1926 and ensures rights to the owner, like a pension and tax benefits. The car dis establish on demand and is delivered by the national Department of Veterans Affairs (l'Office National des Anciens Combattants (ONAC)). This office must ensure that the person has fought at least 3 consecutive month or not. Those documents give precious information for the researches: the last and first name, date and place of birth, and home address. Those cards have another interest, the picture of the fighter and his signature! The records of Veterans cards over 90 years can be destroyed by the ONAC but some documents are given to the Departmental Archives like in the Hautes-Alpes. The preserved and digitalized cards are those return by their holder during the thirties in exchange for a new card.
